Barça does not stop

Winner at Villarreal (0-1), FC Barcelona continues its journey in 2023 and before the big one at the head of La Liga.

Real Madrid may have just been crowned club world champions, but it’s FC Barcelona who have taken another step towards the title of champion of Spain. Traveling to Villarreal, the Blaugranas signed their sixth consecutive victory, which allows them to temporarily take 11 points on their Madrid rival, who have one game less.

This 18th success in 21 days was not the most flamboyant of Xavi’s men, even if the but is magnificent. After a high recovery signed Jules Koundé, the Catalans started a superb collective movement, with a one-two between Robert Lewandowski and Pedri for the 6th goal of the season from the young midfielder (0-1, 18th).

For the rest, Barça was content to manage (7 strikes on goal, only), relying on a defense that has only taken 7 goals this season in the league. It still took the clumsiness of Morales (45th), a save from Araujo (60th) and an offside on the goal of Chukwueze (90th) for the score to hold.

All competitions combined, Barça only won in 2013. The Catalans have already won the Spanish Super Cup, and are well positioned at the top of La Liga. Before thinking about the King’s Cup semi-final against Real, there is a clash looming against Manchester United on Thursday in the Europa League play-off.
