FC Bayern: Salihamidzic criticizes Lewandowski for his departure – no understanding

Own mistake in changing Alaba

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has criticized Robert Lewandowski (33)’s insistence on leaving Bayern despite having a valid contract. Moreover, the Munich sporting director questioned the club’s own role in the departure of defender David Alaba (30), who the record champions had to let go to Real Madrid on a free transfer a year ago.

Salihamidzic understands Lewandowski’s decision « really zero point zero – and not just because of course I fulfilled all my contracts as a player, » the Bayern official said in response to a question in an interview with « Zeit- Magazin » (quoted via « dpa »), which had already been conducted in mid-June. He said: « As a player I would have clarified that internally and for myself and fulfilled my contract. »

Despite the contract until the summer of 2023, Lewandowski declared at the end of May that his story with Bavaria was over. FC Barcelona have now signed him for a fee of up to €50m. The Pole hopes, despite « useless things » on both sides in his attempts for change, « that we can forget what has happened in recent weeks with a little hindsight ».

Salihamidzic on how to proceed in Alaba: ‘Maybe it shouldn’t have been’

Salihamidzic admitted mistakes in negotiations with Alaba. Munich lost the chief of defense to Real Madrid a year ago on a free transfer. « We offered him a lot of money from our point of view. There was a meeting with David’s advisers and we gave the Alaba side an ultimatum: we said that David had to make a decision to here there, » Salihamidzic said. « From today’s point of view, I would say: it might not have been necessary to set a deadline for a player as deserving as David. »
